I am Me

This poster is one of the things that I used on the long hard path of saving and healing myself. My self esteem when I was in college was so so low and I just was in so much pain then for silly stuff and serious stuff. But belive it or not this essay helped me find my joy. I am putting it here for safe keeping. For the young ladies in my life might just need to read this one day.
I Am Me
by Virginia Satir
Virginia came to write this poem when she was working with an angry fifteen-year-old girl who had a lot of questions about herself and what life meant.
I am me.
In all the world, there is no one exactly like me.
There are persons who have some parts like me,
but no one adds up exactly like me.

Therefore, everything that comes out of me
is authentically mine because I alone choose it.
I own everything about me
My Body including everything it does;
My Mind including all its thoughts and ideas;
MY Eyes including the images of all they behold;
My Feelings they may be...
anger,
joy,
frustration,
love,
disappointment,
excitement
My Mouth and all the words that come out of it
polite,
sweet or rough,
correct or incorrect;
My Voice loud or soft.
And all my actions, whether they be to others or to myself.

I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears.
I own all my triumphs and successes,
all my failures and mistakes.
Because I own all of me I can become intimately acquainted with me.
By doing so I can love me and be friendly with me in all parts.
I can then make it possible for all of me to work in my best interests.

I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me,
and other aspects that I do not know.
But as long as I am friendly and loving to myself,
I can courageously and hopefully, look for solutions to the puzzles
and for ways to find out more about me.

However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think
and feel at a given moment in time is me.
This is authentic and represents where I am in that moment in time.
When I review later how I looked and sounded, what I said and did, and how I
thought and felt, some parts may turn out to be unfitting.
I can discard that which is unfitting, and keep that which proved fitting,
And invent something new for that which I discarded.

I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do.
I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive,
and to make sense and order out of the world of people
and things outside of me.
I own me, and therefore I can engineer me.

I AM ME AND I AM OKAY.

Out and About

We went to the Ann Arbor Art Fair for a couple of hours on Saturday. My husband is a horible shopper. He does not know how to linger or browse. He just marches through. So I have discovered that it is best for me to shop alone or with one of my girl friends if I want to linger. The only reason that I agreed to go with him was that we had the kids with us for only the second time this summer. (That is a long story and my period started Friday so I am kinda in a 'mood' right now). The kids especially my step-daughter enjoy getting out of the house and seeing new things. My husband tends to be a homebody and would like nothing better than to spend the whole weekend in the house, in front of the TV. I can't complain too much because he knows that I like to be out having adventures and seeing things. He does try to take me out and he is working on being more patient when I just have to get out of the house. I love our house and one of the reasons we picked it was because of the beautiful backyard and deck. But summer in Michigan is so short I hate to spend it just sitting on our back deck.

My Daddy has been working in the Lord's vineyard for over 60 years at Bethel. (I love that expression, "working in the Lord's vineyard", and you have to pronounce it vin not vine in order for it to sound right. LOL)

I have mentioned before that one of my Sista scrapheros is fellow native Detroit Keshia Campbell and I took this picture with flowers in the background just like she would!!!! Ok one day I will be original but I am sure she won't mind.

Another Day.....

Saw this on quote on Ali Edwards blog today.

Charles Swindoll:
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes.

I have seen this quote before but I am being challanged in so many different ways right now, that I needed to be reminded of this. I struggle to remain happy and satisfied with my life. Most days the struggle is worth it . Some times my spirit gets tired. I will be glad to go to church Sunday. Maybe I just need to have a really good cry.

It's Been a Minute

It has been a minute since I blogged last. Been busy reading other blogs and working on other projects. But I have been reading. I had been in a little bit of a reading slump and nothing was holding my attention. But it looks like there is a lot of good stuff coming out this summer and here is some stuff that I have been enjoying. So head out to you local library or bookstore and pick these books up.

Birthday Flowers

Yesterday was my 40th birthday. Wow it seems funny to say that. For the longest time I was the youngest person in the group of folks I hung out with. Now it seems like almost everyone is younger than me. Milan really hooked me up this weekend. He has been cooking up a storm. He made some excellent lamb chops on Friday. Yesterday he took me to get my hair done and then took me to dinner at Andiomo's in Dearborn. He also bought those beautiful flowers you see on the top of the page. It was a nice quiet day spent with my husband, and you know what that was really cool.

Happy Birthday Mama!!!

My mother turned 70 years old today. As I typed that I had to stop and praise God because 12 years ago she spent a 3 months in a coma after open heart surgery. Health wise she has been through so much. She has diabetes, high blood pressure, and is on dialysis. She has been to the hospital so many times that the er staff know her and me and my father. But somehow she manages to have joy in her life. She and my Father laugh and joke all the time. I am just so grateful that she is still her with us. She taught me how to read, she is the one who encouraged me to be independent and to love beautiful things and people. She has taught me so much about life and love and I love her with all my heart. I love you so much. Happy Birthday Mama!!!

Will wonders ever cease!!!!

Wow I'm excited!!! This is my first digi-page. It took me forever to finally get it. But I am not sure if I really have the hang of it yet. This is Rhonna Farrah February free page off of Two Peas. The photo is of Milan, that I took last year with the Nikon point and shoot he bought me for my birthday last year.
P.S. Thanks Tiff for responding to my sobs of help. I truly appreciate it.

I'm perplexed

Yes I think that is the word. Perplexed.
I just can't figure out why...
Crazy people insist on coming to my job and causing confusion.
Why, I can't get my tail out of bed and do a workout tape.
Why I can't get my hair to act right.
Why I don't know what I want to do for my birthday next week.
Why Jack Bauer trusts his dad, I figured out he was shadey when I first saw him.
Why I can't figure out how to digital scrapbook, I have been using computers for almost 20 years and I can't figure out how to set up a proper digital layout for nothing. Is it that damn hard? Is PSE 4 hard? What step am I missing. I need somebody to help me because.... I just need some help ok lol.

Say It loud!!!

When I was little girl I loved James Brown. Not as much as The Jackson Five but he was a close number 2. I loved all his songs that were played on the popular radio stations of the early 70's that my big sister listened to, CKLW, WJLB-AM, and WCHB-AM. My sister even had a couple of JB 45 that she let me play on her small record player. My three favorite songs by James were
Say it Loud( I'm Black and I'm proud), Hot Pants, and The Big Payback.
So Rest in Peace James Brown, I hope you family and lawyers get everything straighted out soon. Here is a clip I found on youtube. Hope fully it will load properly and you all can enjoy it.
